Marcia O’Connor, celebrated entrepreneur and non-profit leader, to be featured at WRC’s 50th Anniversary Breakthrough Breakfast
Wayne, PA — The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is thrilled to have Marcia O’Connor, CEO and Founder of The O’Connor Group, as our featured fireside chat guest interviewed by Board member Bridgett Battles at our 50th Anniversary Breakthrough Breakfast fundraiser on Friday, May 2 at the Philadelphia Country Club in Gladwyne, PA.
Marcia’s company, The O’Connor Group, is a premier firm specializing in outsourced Human Resources and Talent Acquisition for small and mid-sized companies in Professional Services, Life Sciences/Healthcare, Information Technology, and Manufacturing. Since its founding in 2007, the firm has grown into a nationwide network of over 55 professionals.
The O’Connor Group has earned numerous accolades, including the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Businesses, Philadelphia Business Journal’s Best Places to Work and Soaring 76, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Top Work Places, Philadelphia Titan 100, and the Entrepreneurs Forum Philly 100. The O’Connor Group is also a certified Women’s Business Enterprise.
In a recent interview with WRC, Marcia shared her inspiring story of growing up as the daughter of a blue-collar family in Delaware County, and aspiring to great heights. She is a self-described over-achiever, get-it-done and make-it-happen person. She always knew she wanted to build – and succeeded over time in building her own company as well as a nonprofit, after working in public accounting, auditing, and recruitment consulting.
Beyond founding and leading her firm The O’Connor Group, Marcia serves as a Trustee of Widener University, sits on the Widener University Accounting Advisory Board, and is a Board Member for the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia. She is also on the M&T Bank Advisory Board and Co-chairs the Philadelphia 100 Forum as well as having been named a Hall of Fame Titan 100 recipient.
In a recent interview with WRC, Marcia credited her mentor Jeff Hoffman, who started Priceline.com, with the impetus to start her own nonprofit she named Shadow Her to give back and empower women. Now in its third year, Shadow Her is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit equipping female business owners with essential skills through mentorship from established female entrepreneurs. Marcia commented that her intention is “to show other women you can do this!”
Marcia’s determination is also shown in how she looks outward to helping others. “I love fixing things that are broken and advocate to help – that’s the fun part!” she remarked. She is a generous community builder and female empowerment leader, in addition to being a much-awarded entrepreneur.
“Marcia O’Connor exemplifies the resilience, leadership, and dedication to empowering women that we cultivate at the Women’s Resource Center,” said Elizabeth Monroe, Executive Director of WRC. “Her journey of breaking barriers and uplifting women reflects our mission, making her the perfect keynote speaker for our 50th Anniversary Breakthrough Breakfast. We’re honored to feature her and celebrate the power of women supporting women.”
Proceeds from the 50th Anniversary Breakthrough Breakfast will support the Women’s Resource Center, a Greater Philadelphia nonprofit celebrating 50 years of serving women and girls facing difficult life transitions. Long standing WRC services include an Information & Referral Helpline (701-314-4357), Counseling, low-cost Family Law consultations, a Girls Lead program, and a Financial Stability program.
