About the Helpline

The heart of WRC, the Information & Referral Helpline provides connections to community resources, intake for WRC programs and services, and important data on the evolving needs of the women who reach out to WRC for assistance.

The most common calls are about legal assistance, counseling, basic needs, housing, abuse, and mental health issues.

Helpline Volunteers

WRC volunteers range from brand new volunteers to WRC to those with more than 35 years of experience answering the Helpline. During the pandemic, the Helpline continued to assist callers with Helpline volunteers answering phone and email requests for help from their homes.

“You took the time to talk to me and give me information. You were compassionate. You didn’t rush me or act like you’d heard all of this before. Compassion was in your voice.”

WRC’s Women Speak interviews Helpline Coordinator Debbie Bell about the ways the Helpline supports the community.
